Mega line-up confirmed for ‘Magic Weekend’ in Sweden

the back of fans heads as they watch the 2024 World RX of Sweden

Round 2 of the 2025 FIA World and European Rallycross Championships will feature a packed entry list with top talents now making their preparations for the now infamous ‘Magic Weekend’ at Höljes in Sweden from 5-6 July. 9 World RX, 15 EuroRX1 and 15 EuroRX3 cars will doubtless deliver a dramatic weekend for the hardcore Swedish fans.

Nine top-class FIA World Rallycross Championship entrants have regrouped following an epic first encounter of the season at Lousada in Portugal, and are raring to go on what is a very different circuit at the home of rallycross – Höljes. It is a home race for more than half of the World RX grid, giving the local fans a huge dilemma over who to support!

Seven-time FIA World Rallycross Champion Johan Kristoffersson will be hoping for a bit more luck on home soil than he had at round one, joined in the KMS stable by Ole Christian Veiby, who scored a sensational last-gasp podium in his VW Polo in the Portugal final, as well as a third team entry from local talent Gustav Bergström.

Two more Swedish entries come courtesy of the Hansen brothers Timmy and Kevin – it was their scrapping in the final corner last time out that gave Veiby the opportunity for a podium, so expect more fireworks when the squad gets to Höljes next week.

Klara Andersson rounds out the five local drivers on the Swedish World RX roster – she will no doubt be gunning for the podium in a bid to keep within striking distance of team-mate Niclas Grönholm, who piloted his CE Dealer Team machine to victory at the first time of asking in 2025.

Fellow Finn Juha Rytkönen will put his PGRX Hyundai i20 to work around the 1.21km circuit and, like reigning FIA European Rallycross Champion Patrick O’Donovan, will hope that the predictions are correct and that the legendary layout at Höljes suits his sustainably-fuelled ICE car more than the EV cars of their competitors, as the battle of technologies continues across the 2025 season.

Outside of the top category, no fewer than 30 support category cars are signed up for Sweden, split evenly 15-15 across EuroRX1 and EuroRX3.

In the fire-breathing EuroRX1 category, dominant force from round one Yury Belevskiy is back and hoping for a repeat performance for Volland Racing. Behind him there is an eclectic mix of drivers and cars, with fans eager to see the battles between Audi A1s, Skoda Fabias, VW Polos, Peugueot 208s, Ford Fiestas, Hyundai i20s and Seat Ibizas.

It’s a similar story in EuroRX3, with a fantastic variety of cars, and drivers hailing from seven different countries, all aiming for victory in Höljes. We can expect another showdown between the Portuguese drivers – João Ribeiro was untouchable in Lousada, but will that pace advantage be the same when he’s not on home soil? Last round runner-up André Sousa will certainly be hoping to go one better, and Sámuel Kovács is back to see is another podium is possible.
